Taking Care of Your Child's Bonding

  • Your child needs to avoid using front teeth when biting into his or her food.

  • Foods such as apples, carrots, or bagels should be bitten into with the side teeth, or cut into smaller pieces.

  • Avoid drinking from a glass bottle, as well as opening potato chip bags or anything of this nature with the front teeth.

  • Keeping your child's bonding clean:  It is important to brush and floss the bonded teeth regularly.

Taking Care of Sealants or a New Appliance

Things You CANNOT Eat

  • Candy:  Caramels, Taffy, Fruit Roll-Ups, Starbursts, Air Heads, Now & Later's, Gummy Bears, or any other sticky candy.

  • Gum

  • Ice Cubes

  • Thick Pretzels

Keeping the Appliance Clean

It is important to brush and floss you teeth regularly.

Care of Mouth After Extractions

  1. Bite on cotton gauze for 20 minutes or until bleeding subsides.

  2. No rinsing mouth for 12 hours.

  3. Swelling --- Use ice against cheek.

  4. Food --- Soft diet such as Jell-O, ice cream and/or pudding.

  5. Next Day --- Periodically rinse mouth with 1 teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water.
